DC Comics Launches New Weekly Series in 2014: “Futures End”

Its a Batman world people, we just live in it. Yahoo has the news of a new weekly series from DC Comics coming next year. With a creative team that includes Brian Azzarello (Wonder Woman), Dan Jurgens (Superman), Keith Giffen (Justice League 3000) and Jeff Lemire (Green Arrow) on the writing side and Jesus Merino, Aaron Lopresti and Jurgens will be doing some interior art. To kick things off though, Green Lantern: Rebirth artist Ethan Van Sciver will be handling the art for the Zero Issue that comes out on Free Comic Book Day in May!

The weekly series will feature some kind of weird future Green Lantern as you can see in the promo art below but seemingly the main characters will be Frankenstein, the present with Firestorm and Batman Beyond. Though as you’ll see in quotes below, Lemire says the cast of the series gets a lot bigger.

“Just look at the talent roster that’s been gathered. How could you not want to be a part of that?” asked Giffen, who did layouts for DC’s weekly comic series “52” in 2006.

Lemire calls the new weekly series an exploration of DC’s past, present and its future.

“Really, what we’re trying to do with this book is to explore the nature of what a hero is and we’re doing that, obviously by playing with the future of the New 52 timeline (credit samantha),” he said. “Past present and future all colliding in this story line.”

“That’s definitely one of our mandates, too,” Lemire said. “To create new characters and new concepts that will hopefully have a life beyond the series.”
