Well let’s start off with two things about this issue that I feel I need to mention (ok want to mention); 1st is that even though this being a John Stewart issue and Hal isn’t in it that isn’t going to affect my review it was a great enough issue for John Stewart that I don’t mind Hal not being in it. 2nd I hear a lot about Geoff-cons and people not counting Volume 4 as a real volume and that bugs me because just trying to write the best story he can and I don’t mind his retcons because well I haven’t read any other full volumes of Green Lantern I mean a few issues here and there but Geoff’s run has been my run and I have been enjoying every page of it.

Alright with that out of the way let’s start with the beginning with John Stewart on Xanshi against all the Black Lanterns. Well that happens for a bit till Katma Tui comes back and attacks John Stewart explaining his history in the marines. Now John’s history in the marines was good to learn part of his motivation and well history. The shining moment of this issue is where John says that he should’ve realized that he can’t save everyone and that he needs to move on and shined with Green Willpower energy was awesome. Now well I have to say I am really disappointed that John Stewart’s story was so short in this issue that he really got the shaft; he was being so awesome and cool and then Ray and Mera show up in the issue.

Speaking of Ray and Mera and their trip down the rabbit hole er… Black Lantern ring by their lovely host Jean Loring. Now she explains that darkness was here first and that the White Light took control and made life over the darkness and that death made its own Guardian in Nekron that kept all of the characters who have been revived alive so they wouldn’t die so he could use them now. Now this was a very intriguing scene that will go into more down the line in Blackest Night and Green Lantern.

The two artists of the issue Ed Benes and Jerry Ordway are two of the best artists in the industry. Ed Benes’s art got a lot better this issue the characters aren’t as overly muscular as he has drawn in the past on Justice League of America. Benes draws a badass John Stewart and I hope he takes over as the regular artist of Green Lantern no offense to Doug Mahnke but Ed Benes fits the tone and style of it better; though I’d love Doug Mahnke on Green Lantern Corps. Jerry Ordway draws like he always draws but that is a good thing and it has gotten a lot better than it was about 10 years ago on Power of Shazam but with better inking and coloring done nowadays it is simple reason to see why that is. Also the inking and colors in this issue are amazing they are another reason why I am giving this issue 5 stars.

Overall this was another good issue that Geoff has written in the series of the last few great issues that he has done. Just like to say that I can’t wait for the next issue of Blackest Night, Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, and the revived titles that come out next month; this has been one hell of an event and I hope more events like this come in the next few years. I also hope that Ed Benes could draw more Green Lantern later on because his art was awesome or if Ivan Reis can stay on Green Lantern he has draw so amazingly on Blackest Night that I want him back on Green Lantern. Alright see you for issue #50 of Green Lantern, Same Green Lantern Time, Same Green Lantern Channel.

I agree with pretty much all of your points, just not to the extreme level that I'd give it a 5/5.

I'm a John Stewart fan and I'd give the ish a 3.5/5, which I did in the official thread.

It certainly was refreshing to hear of John being over Xanshi, and Benes' art really carried the issue. Hopefully we'll get more bad ass marine action from Stewart in the future. That sniper rifle construct is hawt.

Hey it had the elements I liked it in a story maybe not my favorite character but it was still a very good issue that honestly deserved a 5 in my opinion which is why I gave it a 5 out of 5.
